I remember getting off the plane in Cancun, as if I was in another world. After a year of a worldwide pandemic, I felt I needed MEXICO for my mental sanity. I took 10 days in Mexico to replenish myself so in hopes of going back and working harder. My cab driver drove me 2.5 hours to the Holbox ferry he played pitbull for 1/2 the ride and traditional Mexican music for the other 1/2. Once he got me to the ferry, I got on. From there it was another 40 mins to the island of Holbox. I sat there wondering when I was finally going to get there. After the ferry dropped me off, I walked over to the golf cart taxi who finally took me to my hostel TRIBU.

The bohemian-type hostel had a boho-styled bar and restaurant, attached to it. I got settled in my only girl's room bunk bedroom I had officially taped the red shoes a couple of times and realized I was not in JERSEY anymore! I went upstairs to the bar, got the sushi and amazing tequila martini. I sat there alone, exhausted from almost 9 hours of travel and sipped my martini. The live music was playing in the background, which immediately cut off to introduce the next open miC singer. She beautifully sang a french song, I sipped my martini as I got lost in the music. No one ---I mean no one knew me and I felt liberated. I went to sleep, and the next day got a bike to rent to head over to the beach. I got a massage on the beach, then headed for a beach club chair seating, where I drank michadales all day and got into the beach water. then, I rode back to my hostel for the bar at night.

That was basically my routine--breakfast at a cute place, beach or a tour, then bar at the hostel at night. I met so many solo travelers from around the world, and instantly felt a connection. It was so refreshing to be understood, instead of explaining why you are going yet ALONE to another place.
